I was able to FINALLY do a canyon called the Subway In Zions. It seems that everyone I talked to has done the Subway and I always see pictures for it everywhere. After a long night at the Permit office in Zions i was able to get the permit for 6 of us to go through. We started with a canyon called Das Boot which then leads into the Subway. I got to do 2 canyons in one day! The group was all driving down from Salt Lake/Provo area and I was going to meet them up in a town called Virgin at 7:30. Except.. I slept through my alarms and woke up to Chad calling me saying they are almost to Virigin. Woops..my bad I overslept. SO i jump out of bed and try and get everything together and leave to head out there. Thankfully they stopped at a grocery store and everyone was easy going. So we all start the drive out to the exit of the Subway and drop off my car, and then all 6 of us (Me, Chad, Sam, Shane, Caleb, and Matt) hop into Sam's car and drive to the entrance of Das Boot. There were not enough seats so it was an uncomfortable ride, but worth it. Here we are at the beginning, dry and happy!
The hike in is a beautiful hike, I have done Das Boot before and I have a picture just like this, so of course I took another one.
This is the entry of the canyon. Chad was an anchor for those who needed some help, but just to make things a little more secure sam held onto chad, I held onto Sam, and Matt held onto me, until one by one we went down.
This is what Das Boot looks like throughout the whole thing, It's beautiful.
We finally made it out of Das Boot and into the SUN!! Das boot is a freezing cold, wet canyon. Wetsuits are highly recommended. So I was absolutely freezing and just left the group and practically ran out of the canyon. And if anyone has every been canyoneering with me they know that I am always in the back of the group because I am slow and just take my time looking at everything but this time i was in the front. And when I finally got into the sun I saw something hanging off my helmet and then i noticed it was a SPIDER, I through off my helmet without unbuckling it, it freaked me out so bad. Anyway, Chad noticed I wasn't around and got worried and left the group and came searching for me. And he was very surprised by how fast i had moved through the canyon. :)
The water was so deep that we couldn't touch, and then we reached a ledge and you could stand. This picture just makes me laugh.
We made it out just before we lost all light. It was an amazing day! I may have led us astray on the hike out, and there was even a path to follow. I should never be in the lead.
